FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

You've Got Questions. We Have Answers:

What is coaching?

The International Coaching Foundation defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.

The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership. We all have goals we want to reach, challenges we’re striving to overcome and times when we feel stuck. Partnering with a coach can change your life, setting you on a path to greater personal and professional fulfillment.

What is the difference between Coaching and Therapy?
  • Coaching focuses on your present so that you can create the future you desire while therapy usually focuses on the past so that you can better manage your present
  • Coaching works on the belief that the client is whole, complete and resourceful while therapy is often centered around a framework of pathology and illness
  • Coaches work with their client to co-create the solution while therapists tend to work to diagnose disorders and work with trauma
  • Coaches are in an equal partnership with the client, walking side by side while therapists are practiced doctors working with their patients
What could I gain from a coaching engagement?

Coaching will help you focus on learning from experience and creating solutions or baby steps to thinking and acting in different ways and moving forward. Throughout our time, I will help you gain self-coaching skills so that you can develop a forward-thinking mindset and are not always reliant on a coach.

Where would I meet my coach?

We would meet virtually via Google Meet.

How often would I meet with my coach?

Depending on the cadence that is determined in the Strategy Session and the gains that are being made between sessions, it is likely that we will need to meet every 1 to 2 weeks. This frequency offers time for reflection and application of learning between sessions, while maintaining the momentum of our work together.

How long would the coaching process take?

I currently offer two coaching packages: 4 sessions and 6 sessions. The length of the coaching process depends on the level of commitment from the client and the distance between the starting position and the desired end state. Because there is always work to be done, my philosophy is to teach the client how to self-coach so that they do not always need my services. Once we start to uncover the need behind the challenges you are facing, you will gain insightful information about yourself that will allow you to understand what tools to pull out in order to approach various situations.

Can I change through coaching?

I believe that with the right combination of desire, effort and time, anyone can change. Coaching helps you to accelerate the change so that you can come to conclusions and actions faster- saving you your greatest asset- time.

Are the conversations I have with my coach confidential?

Everything that is discussed in your coaching session remains confidential.

What are the coaching styles that would be employed in our work together?

To make the most of our time together I operate on the following principles during our sessions:

  • Results oriented: at the start of each session I will ask you what you hope to gain from our hour and then as we speak, I bring us back into focus to ensure that you are walking away having used the time exactly how you intended to
  • Direct: while it may take time for you to feel comfortable enough to open up to me, I will be as simple and clear as possible in order to remain efficient and to avoid any misunderstandings. You can rely on me to get straight to the point with my observations and questions.
  • Stimulating: as the saying goes: We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them. - Albert Einstein
As such, it is my responsibility to challenge your belief system and approach (either you will get further grounded in it or you will be shaken out of it- either way, it should make for a compelling conversation).
Are there take-home tasks, like homework, or will we simply meet and discuss in person?

Coaching homework should help a client make progress towards achieving a goal that he or she cares about. At times I may suggest an assignment; other times the coachee may propose one. Either way, devising appropriate practice involves talking with the coachee about what sorts of behaviors and experiences are likely to facilitate goal achievement, as well as what metrics can be used to measure progress toward that goal. These activities and metrics help build structure, accountability, and results into the process.

Together, we:

  • Identify your Dream(s)
  • (once written down) they become your Goals

Career: promotion, raise, managing expectations, delivering results, increasing productivity, improving peformance

Relationships: defining your worth, enhancing communication, setting and standing by boundaries

Self Development: understanding your values, living purposefuly, recognizing and breaking through harmful patterns, building confidence

How do I prepare for the Free Strategy Session?

Come with an open mind to see whether Coaching would be a good fit for you based on your assessment of our exchange. I will ask you what brought you to the session and we will take it from there. By the end of the session we will have an understanding of whether we would make a good team.

What sort of commitment is needed during a session?

To make the most out of the coaching engagement it is necessary for you to come to each session focused and attend from a distraction free space (silent notifications and other things that may even be on your mind, such as needing to walk the dog half way through a session, should be handled ahead of time).
